IRENE |
|
Irene
has sort of a double personality, mostly due to her shyness and low self
confidence: she's naturally kind, responsible, caring and honest, but when
things doesn't go her way she either falls into a moody depressive state, or
just becomes enraged, stubborn and impossible to talk with. She is very
possessive (both in terms of material items and affections) and can't
tolerate anything that interferes between her and her things/beloved people
or Pokémon. This makes relationships with other people very difficult, not
to mention she finds it easier to have to do with Pokémon rather than
humans.
She is a very loyal friend despite all of this, and often puts others ahead
of her when it comes to importance.
She loves drawing Pokémon and actually met her first online friends (who now
she keeps in contact with thanks to the PokéNav) thanks to this passion of
hers.
Irene always wears a Quick Claw
as a necklace, a gift from a very close friend of hers who
shares her love for extinct and prehistoric Pokémon. She is
really interested in myth and legends, but has a very
personal view on legendary Pokémon; let's say she could be considered an
atheist of the Pokémon world. In fact, she believes in the existence of
Pokémon like Arceus, Mew, Lugia... but she considers them Pokémon like all
the others, just so powerful or elusive that nobody has ever been able to
train them or even approach them. To support her idea, she mentions trainers
like Brandon or Palmer who are known to keep "legendary" Pokémon in their
teams, or the fact that multiple specimen of certain "legendaries" have
apparently been spotted in different regions.
Irene doesn't really have a favorite Pokémon or type, even if she has very
strong bonds to some of her team members. She has lately discovered a
certain affinity to Dark types though.

Biography:
Irene's story begins on the island of Altomare, where she lives in a small
house with her parents. She doesn't have many friends living there: she
loves her city, but she is not a social person and doesn't like going around
to meet new people. Despite loving to draw them, she doesn't have any
Pokémon of her own, so she spends most of her time on the computer, chatting
with people who live far away in other regions.
When her family decides to move to Hoenn, Irene is 14; they settle down in a
pretty house near Mauville City, where she can finally meet one of her
online friends who happens to be in that region training his Pokémon: Gad.
He convinces Irene that if she really likes Pokémon so much, she has to get
one, not necessarily for fighting... and so she finally gets one, a female
Torchic called Uriel.
Uriel soon proves to love fights, even though her legs aren't as strong as
they're supposed to be for her species, and even if Irene is at the
beginning a bit reluctant, she finally decides to become a Pokémon trainer.
She still doesn't like the idea of keeping her monsters in Pokéballs though,
nor to catch them randomly in the wild, so her first team is slowly built
out of Pokémon she meets around and who decide to join her team for
different personal reasons. She begins to understand that different people
see Pokémon in different ways and train them using different methods, which
she doesn't always approve of. One of these people is Kene, a rich boy from
Kanto 2 years older than her, who she keeps on randomly meeting and with
whom she develops a huge rivalry.
During her quest for getting all of the region's Gym Badges, Irene has a few
encounters with shady characters that she initially trusts and decides to
join and help; she is given the task to keep an eye against such people's
supposed enemies: Team Aqua. When the events start getting a bit more
suspicious though, she realizes the team she has joined is just as criminal
as Team Aqua: and when the situation comes to a head, the best she can do,
with the support of her Pokémon, is to help people evacuating Sootopolis
when the leaders of both Team Magma and Aqua lose control of the titans they
were hoping to tame, Groudon and Kyogre.
When the accident is over, Irene can finally obtain all of Hoenn badges: she
completes that quest at the age of 18, but she can't really go past Hoenn's
Elite Four; the event seriously makes her lose faith in herself and her
ability to train Pokémon, and she is almost going to stop being a trainer...
Her life gets a new direction when she suddenly receives an invitation for
the newly built Battle Frontier on the Ex-Battle Tower Island: Scott is
apparently contacting "the best trainers of all Hoenn" but when she gets
there she understands that was more of an advertising campaign.. because
there are thousands of people there! But, since she has gotten that far,
Irene decides to try out the Battle Frontier anyway: she understand that
true, there are better trainers around, but she can still prove she's worth
something with the help of her six Pokémon. Meeting so many trainers
together also changes her mind about catching Pokémon, and among other
things she gets to visit the Safari Zone for the first time. She no longer
only has six Pokémon, and while rotating teams seems weird at the beginning,
she soon understand that it could benefit both her and her Pokémon to get
some changes sometimes.
Her parents don't like her sending her benched Pokémon home at first, but
almost all of them are very helpful so in the end the monsters are a nice
addition to the family.
In a couple years, Irene gets all of the Battle Frontier symbols, and it's
her final encounter with Pyramid King Brandon that opens her eyes to how
important it would be to travel to other regions to understand important
things in life and make vital experiences. In the meanwhile, Irene has met
up again with Kene, and since both of them have done good in the Battle
Frontier, they decide to start a journey together in a region that is new to
both of them, Sinnoh.
Once they get there, though, they discover they can't keep their usual
Pokémon due to some new quarantine rule in the region; trainers need to
spend a fixed time in Sinnoh before being able to use their old Pokémon.
This is a security measure taken by the authorities because of a dangerous
criminal group set in the region, Team Galactic.
So, Irene and Kene each obtain a starter Pokémon from Prof. Rowan; while
they're at his laboratory, a guy around their age called Shiro picks up a
starter Pokémon too. They're pretty sure they've already seen him somewhere,
but he's a guy of few words, and he leaves the lab without explaining
anything.
The journey across Sinnoh is hard for both Irene and Kene, who eventually
split up again to their own roads, promising each other to meet again, after
they get all eight badges, to take on Sinnoh's Elite Four. In the meanwhile
Irene develops a very strong bond with her newly caught Pokémon, much
similar to the bond she had created with her first six ones.
Traveling across Sinnoh, she meets the mysterious Shiro again, and starts
thinking there's something fishy about him, but can't really understand
what. Weird encounters aside, Irene is able to get all eight badges in less
than one year, which makes her finally feel really proud. As promised, she
meets again with Kene, and both of them obtain a victory against the Sinnoh
Elite Four. Cynthia then gives them permission to have their previous
Pokémon back as they have both proven to be trustworthy trainers.
After a touching meeting with her old friends, Irene decides to spend some
more time in Sinnoh with them, as she loves the region and the Pokémon that
can be found there. In the meanwhile, she plans what her next journey might
be... |

POKéMON in IRENE's team: RUBY AND SAPPHIRE
|
|
URIEL
Species: Blaziken
Gender: Female
Bio: Irene's first
Pokémon and the one she has the strongest bond with. She got the Pokémon
from a man that sold Torchics in a big Pokémon convention; Uriel was the
last Torchic left, probably because of some hereditary leg problems that
would have never allowed her to rely on kick-related moves, something quite
unfitting for a future fighting type... Irene didn't really care for
battling, but Uriel did; it was her determination to fight that finally
convinced Irene to become a trainer.
Uriel is, personality wise, very similar to Irene, except for the fact she
is not shy or self conscious... or at least, she can hide her weaknesses
pretty well. |
 |
|
|
JEHIEL
Species: Manectric
Gender: Male
Bio:
Jehiel, as an Electrike, belonged to an old, lonely man who lived in
Mauville city. When the man died, the Pokémon started wandering alone across
the city, with nobody to rely on. Irene found him, starving, and decided to
feed him; and since he had nowhere to go, he joined her team.
Jehiel is extremely loyal, and extremely strong in battle even if he usually
hides it with modesty. |
 |
|
|
ELEMIAH
Species: Pelipper
Gender: Male
Bio: He was part of a
flock of Wingull, and he was the first one to evolve. Other members of the
flock stated making fun of how ugly and clumsy he had become, but he never
gave importance to them, and instead wanted to teach them the importance of
what we are inside rather than of our appearance only... but without
success. Elemiah joined Irene's team as he was happy to finally find someone
similarly-minded. |
 |
|
|
MANAKEL
Species: Walrein
Gender: Female
Bio: She is extremely kind and gentle, but
becomes a fury when enraged (in a way, this is just like Irene). Manakel
holds a grudge against the villains who destroyed the shore she lived on
with her family, and is more than happy to join Irene's team to get revenge.
After the Aqua/Magma event is over, she decides to stay with Irene with whom
she has developed a strong bond of friendship. |
 |
|
|
AFRIEL
Species: Breloom
Gender: Male
Bio: He is always happy, playful, and loves being around kids and small
Pokémon. He is sort of the buffoon of the group, and he relies on funny
jokes to cheer up Irene whenever she feels sad. |
 |
|
|
TABRIS
Species: Aggron
Gender: Female
Bio: She is extremely sweet, caring, and adorable. Too bad she is a HUGE
METAL MONSTER with not exactly much brain, so she will probably squeeze
anyone she tries to show affection for... |
 |
POKéMON in IRENE's team: EMERALD BATTLE FRONTIER
|
JUNGLER
Species: Sceptile
Gender: Male
Bio:
As a Grovyle, Jungler was one of Noland's Pokémon in the Battle Factory.
Irene used him in a rental battle, but something went wrong and the Pokémon
got badly hurt. Irene went often to the Pokémon center to check how he was
doing, and the young Pokémon developed a bond he shouldn't have, since she
was not his original trainer. This made Noland worry, because Pokémon in the
Battle Factory should not become attached to anyone: so he proposed Irene to
trade the Grovyle for another Pokémon she'd catch in the Safari Zone. She
accepted, and since she was able to complete the task, he became part of her
team.
Jungler is an eccentric spirit, who uses berry juices to paint battle signs
on his own face, but is deep inside a very sweet and caring creature. He
seems to be attracted to Pokémon of his same gender. |
 |
|
|
CYCLONE
Species: Dodrio
Gender: Male
Bio: One of the monsters Irene caught at the Safari Zone when looking for
Pokémon for Noland. She thought a fast runner would have been a nice
addition to her team, but she soon discovered that three heads, that even
together don't really have a big brain, can sometimes be a bit of an issue.
Cyclone is air headed, frivolous, and irresponsible. He can do well in
battle but it's quite hard to get him do what he is SUPPOSED to do.
|
 |
|
|
HURRICANE
Species: Aerodactyl
Gender: Male
Bio: Irene received a piece of Old Amber in the mail from someone in Kanto...
she still isn't sure on who it was, but the sender seemed to know her love
for Fossil Pokémon very well. When revived, Hurricane proved to be the
opposite of the ferocious crature Aerodactyls are usually presented as; he
is totally unaware of the fact his species is considered extinct, and still
acts pretty much as a little kid... but he can deal quite a big damage to
the opponents in battle. |
 |
|
|
TYPHOON
Species: Magmar
Gender: Male
Bio: He probably is the oldest of all of Irene's Pokémon, she got him in a
trade when she came back from the Safari Zone with a couple Pokémon she
wanted to show Noland in exchange for Jungler - the one Noland didn't want,
Irene traded for Typhoon with a passing by trainer. Typhoon is not as agile
and fast as he was once, and that's the reason why his original trainer
didn't use him in battle much anymore; but he is wise and experienced and
Irene realized this would have help all of her Pokémon: Typhoon is sort of a
father figure for everyone. |
 |
|
|
SONJIA
Species: Golduck
Gender: Female
Bio: A silent and timid Pokémon, Sonjia doesn't really like to battle, even
if she has a natural skill for it. In this, she is very similar to Jehiel,
and Irene often finds herself talking to the Golduck about her inner
problems, also because she's the only female Pokémon of her Battle Frontier
new team.
|
 |
|
|
BAALETH
Species: Lunatone
Gender: -
Bio: Irene met this Lunatone while training with Sonjia at Meteor Falls;
something was disturbing Sonjia's Psychic attack.
It was Baaleth trying to communicate, but being it a very young Lunatone, it
was just messing up. Irene realized that a Psychic type would have been
useful to train and proposed the Lunatone to join her team. Baaleth can
understand people's feelings, emotions and thoughts very easily, but is at
the same time very lazy and doesn't use its powers as much as it could. |
 |
|
POKéMON in IRENE's team: DIAMOND AND PEARL
|
|
ZATHAEL
Species: Infernape
Gender: Male
Bio: Irene didn't want to
pick Chimchar at Rowan's laboratory, thinking he was ugly, but she didn't
really like the sleepy Turtwig who Kene took anyway, and Shiro was faster in
picking Piplup. She then felt sorry for the Chimchar, as she realized she
was only judging him for his appearance, and decided to give him a chance.
Zathael wasn't really hurt for this, as he was aware he was not cute or cool
looking, but his personality is what totally conquered Irene. He is an
amazing mix of cute, silly and loyal, and as an Infernape he hasn't changed
a single bit. |
 |
|
|
RAMIEL
Species: Luxray
Gender: Female
Bio:
Ramiel hates EVERYTHING. She was born as female, she hates being female, she
hate all females, and she hates males because she's not one of them. She
tries to pretend she's a male but she is extremely feminine and beautiful in
her looks, which angers her even more. She is aware of the fact that being a
Luxray she doesn't know many useful moves for battle (specially since she
was born without Ice Fang), and this ENRAGES her. Irene thinks it's a
miracle all of her team members are still alive because it's not safe to be
around Ramiel when she's angry. It's pretty hard to say what the real
feelings of the grumpy lioness are |
 |
|
|
TALIAHAD
Species: Floatzel
Gender: Male
Bio: Taliahad has
ninja-like life style and battle style. He is extremely proud of himself,
and actually has a good reason to be so. He seems to have a crush on Ramiel,
but he tries not to make it too evident for obvious reasons. |
 |
|
|
ISRAFEL
Species: Toxicroak
Gender: Female
Bio: Irene wanted a Croagunk in her team
badly, but when she went to Great Marsh looking for one, she had the worst
luck for all day. Having mud all over her legs, cold rain coming from the
sky, and not having met a single Croagunk for the whole day, Irene felt
extremely disappointed and really sad when she wasted all her safari Balls
but one on a Croagunk that didn't want to be caught. She was about to just
toss the last Ball to a random Bidoof instead, when she heard a familiar
sound coming from behind and she saw a Croagunk calmly looking at her,
puffing her cheeks. Irene just threw the ball and Israfel was caught.
She now is the most attached Pokémon Irene has... the way she looks at
people is sometimes creepy, but Irene finds her adorable. The feeling is
mutual, Israfel even seems to have some deeper unrequited feelings though... |
 |
|
|
ZUPHLAS
Species: Abomasnow
Gender: Male
Bio: Calm and serious, Zuphlas is extremely protective to Irene and other
team members, despite his natural weakness to may Pokémon types in battle.
It's hard to imagine Zuphlas in a romantic way, but he indeed fell in love
with a beautiful Froslass in the past, only to discover that she was only
acting sweet to him because she was gentle to everyone, but she already had
solid relationship with a Glalie... Even today, when the days are clear and
you can see the top of Mt. Coronet, Zuphlas can look at it for hours,
thinking about his old life and love there. |
 |
|
|
RAPHAEL
Species: Honchkrow
Gender: Male
Bio: He was the youngest Murkrow of a flock that was irritating the people
of Solaceon Town, as they stole jewelry and eggs for their Honchkrow boss.
Not sure on what the people wanted to do with the Pokémon, Irene decided to
catch and keep at least one Murkrow. It was her first time dealing with a
Dark Pokémon, and it was quite hard at the beginning to get his trust, but
then Raphael accepted her as a trainer. When he evolved, the roles pretty
much were inverted, and now Irene can't help it but feel a reverential
respect for the big bird. Other than mutual respect, there's a strong bond
between the two, and Irene is allowed to cuddle Raphael, while other Pokémon
are pretty annoyed by him and his bossy attitude. |
 |
POKéMON in IRENE's team: PLATINUM
|
ARMAROS
Species: Umbreon
Gender: Male
Bio: He belonged to Evelyn, a rich woman who lives in Sinnoh and adores
Eevees and their evolutions, and want to spread the love for her favorite
Pokémon, so she breeds them and sells them to trainers who are interested in
having such rare, strong and beautiful Pokémon in their teams. Though, this
little Eevee was not interested in living a life with someone only coveting
him because "he's a wonderful Eevee evolution". He actually preferred
sleeping when trainers come and choose Eevees for their teams, so nobody
liked him, including his three siblings. Irene eventually met the lonely
Eevee wandering at night and gave him hope that there are some people that
don't care about that kind of things... and in the end he decided to join
her team.
As a creature who loves the night, Armaros became an Umbreon; he has the
secret hope in his heart to meet a Cresselia, the beautiful creature of the
moon. |
 |
|
|
SANDALPHON
Species: Skuntank
Gender: Male
Bio: Sandalphon is REALLY self conscious and worried people might dislike
him because of his natural odor. For this reason, he tries to keep his body
as clean as he can; he also dislikes keeping his tail in the natural
position for Skuntanks, because he doesn't want people to think he'll attack
them with poisonous gas. As a result he is an adorable to hug big ball of
fluff; Irene adores how sweet and soft he can be, even if as a Dark Type he
always has a mischievous light in his eyes.
|
 |
|
|
BARAQIEL
Species: Manectric ★
Gender: Male
Bio: Irene had always loved the black color of a Shiny Manectric, so when
she was given a PokéRadar as a rental trial, she immediately tested it
around Floaroma City where Electrikes were known to sometimes appear. When
she finally find the sparky Electrike, he didn't want to be caught at all.
Irene stubbornly insisted, but it took a while to get his trust. Baraqiel
doesn't like to be considered different, and at first he is quite annoyed by
Irene; but then, he meets up with Jehiel, Irene's first Manectric, from whom
he understands that Irene really cares about a Pokémon's personality too.
After that, he becomes a loyal fighter and even teachs Jehiel how to use
Flamethrower. |
 |
|
|
ZERUEL
Species: Machoke
Gender: Male
Bio: As a Machop, Zeruel was extremely self conscious because he had a
feeling nobody liked fighting type Pokémon because of their often ugly look.
To help him understand this was not the case, and that trainers care for
their Pokémon for other reasons, Irene decided to have a 6 VS 6 battle
against Veilstone's Gym leader Maylene. Seeing the heated battle, Zeruel
regained faith in himself. He still doesn't want to evolve to Machamp though,
as he wants to give his best in Machoke form. |
 |
|
|
FERNANDEZ
Species: Rotom
Gender: -
Bio: Fernandez was first caught by Shiro, one of Irene's old time rivals,
while breaking havoc around the Old Chateau. He later traded it for Irene's
Gible, as he didn't like the Rotom's personality. Fernandez act just exactly
like we can expect from a Rotom: mischievous, naughty, and loves to play
tricks. He seems to have a strong respect for Irene though, after seeing she
suffered a lot from its jokes, he tried to tone them down a lot. Not
necessarily succeeding in it...
|
 |
|
|
ZAPHIEL
Species: Xatu
Gender: Female
Bio: As a Natu, she started following Irene's team, creeping her and all her
Pokémon out. Irene could never understand the reason for this, but in the
end she decided to toss a ball at her, catching the little bird without
problems. After evolving, Zaphiel is even more mysterious and silent than
before. She can stay immobile for hours, and then whatever she does, it will
be overly dramatic. Even the dark type Pokémon in Irene's team fear her when
she acts like this. |
 |
|
|
???
Species: Mothim
Gender: Male
Bio: When he was a Burmy, his "clothes" of leaves would often fall on
the ground generating hilarity in everyone, so he started wearing a scarf
instead, that he often still wears even if he has evolved. As a Mothim, he
became extremely vain and would always try to attract others with his
beauty, but actually such attempts are very pompous and ridiculous.
He's pretty useless in battle, as he's not very strong, and this made him a
bit of a coward. Irene would often carry him on her shoulder as a mascot
though. |
 |
POKéMON that were temporary in IRENE's team
|
ARAEL
Species: Swellow
Gender: Male
Bio: As a Taillow, he was caught by a hunter's illegal trap. Irene freed him,
but one of his claws was seriously wounded, and so his feet became mutilated.
Better than dying though, so even if the young bird didn't become a
full-time member on Irene's team, he kept on following her even after his
evolution, hoping to one day be able to repay her. He now has his nest
somewhere near Mauville city... |
 |
|
|
ZIKIEL "ZIKI"
Species: Vulpix
Gender: Female
Bio: She was given to Irene as a partner Pokémon when she was temporarily
part of Team Magma. A very sweet yet determined Vulpix, she had a collar
that said "Ziki"; Irene kept her for a while before discovering most of Team
Magma's Pokémon had actually been stolen to other trainers. Irene was later
able to locate Ziki's original trainer, a little kid of Lavaridge Town, and
gave her back to him not without many tears of both joy for a reunited
family, and sadness because their bond had become quite strong.
